Anyone else had the opportunity to work with the Symbility software vs Xactimate.  Our company is switching from Xactimate to Symbility (nation wide) and I have been testing the program for the last several months and I have to say; Xactimate has some competition now.

I really like the program, especially sketch.  Easy to use, especially in tablet form.  Cost wise from what I understand, is both a blessing to companies as well as contractors.  Many of the contractors are jumping on board.

Anyone else out there using it or had come across it in some way or another?  I would like to know.

Scott,

We have been researching Symbility as well as an alternate to Xactimate.

Curious as to what type of work you do and the ease of switching from Xactimate to Symbility went or is going.

There is concern about how it affects adjusters/contractors regarding software licensing, etc.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks in advance.

Network2012,

We are just beging our switch.  I am a property claims adjuster and have used Xactimate for many years.  Xactimate has kind of become a monopoly in the realm of estimating programs as you are surely aware.  Contractors really don't like to have to use it but kind of have to.

Ease of use switching over is still unknown at this point since we are just starting our switch.  Some of our divisions have already began to using and it started out bumpy but quickly smoothed out. I feel there will be a time frame of getting use to a new platform which I figure to be normal.

Not sure on your questions about "software licensing"?  What specifically do you mean?

What is it that you do?

Thanks

Scott B

I have used Simsol in the past and find it to be a very competetive damage estimating program.

We are changing over to Symbility from MSB. Same company but with a twist.  I am an Xactimate fan and Symbility is supposed t mirror Xactimate.  Mirror so close that Xactimate is in court of patent infringement.

Doing large loss estimates from sketch is a beneift and Symbility is supposed to allow you to do this.  Downside of Symbility is going to be the unit cost and materials database which is still going to be MSB.  Xactimate allows you to drill down deeper for accurate pricing on the different materials used in commercial and residential construction.

We will see.

Check out this new Property Ruler Software from the Oil Claim Calculator folks.  It does a property damage estimate in 5 minutes.  It is not meant to replace professional grade estimating software.

It's a consumer tool and also great for quick estimates when at a client's house to give them a quick estimate and sign them up.

Nicole, can you be more specific in your question?

I hate using Xactimate on so many levels but it is a necessity in my business.  I run a water mitigation company and am on several third party vendor programs.  These programs require you to use Xactimate.  The problem with it is the pricing and the way they figure the pricing.  When Xactimate first came out there was no third party vendors and so them collecting information from all the contractors and getting an average price was a good way to do it.  Now since most contractors are on third party vendor programs and can not change Xactimate pricing per their contract our prices are stagnant while everything around us increases in price and it won't change until contractors demand it.

One small example of my frustration is in 1992 when I started in the business we got 30.00 a day for a centrifugal air mover.  Back then there was no axial air movers.  Today we get 25.75 with Xactimate for the same style air mover.  I know for a fact my cost of doing business has not gone down since 1992 but what I can charge for my services has gone down.  Even an axial air mover is only 29.xx in my area today.

The Xactimate model is definitely broke.
