$3.1B Of Claim Payments Made In Japan Since April Earthquake

The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) reports that claims paid in the wake of the Kumamoto earthquake in mid-April totalled 317 billion yen, or about US$3.1 billion, as of June 20. Specifically, there have been 239,749 inquiries made, 222,981 settled cases and 201,186 claim payments, totaling slightly more than 317 billion yen for “earthquake insurance on dwelling risks,” say GIAJ figures issued last week. The total amount in claims paid as of June 20 is up from about 301 billion yen on June 13, when claims payments numbered 190,311, and about 272.4 billion yen on June 6, when total claims payments were 168,589, notes the GIAJ statement.
