A worker was killed and three others were injured early Tuesday when a 45-ton beam fell at a construction site in Des Plaines, officials said. The workers were in lifts on Touhy Road working to remove the beam under Interstate 90 at about 3 a.m. when the beam collapsed, officials said. One of them was taken in critical condition to Lutheran General Hospital and later pronounced dead. Three others were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, according to Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax.
