6-alarm fire burns in Bronx near Yankee Stadium, injuring 28 firefighters, 3 residents

A raging six-alarm blaze on a sweltering night left 28 firefighters injured Wednesday after driving residents from their burned-out apartments near Yankee Stadium. The rooftop fire at 975 Walton Ave. shot flames into the night sky for nearly four hours before more than 200 firefighters tamed the blaze around 4 a.m. Three residents of the Bronx building were also injured as the FDNY battled both the blaze and the sticky weather. About 40 residents sat in a park across the street later Wednesday, waiting for word on their homes.
