As violent rain and hail pounded eastern El Paso County on Monday afternoon, staff members and volunteers at the National Mill Dog Rescue scrambled to make sure the animals were safe. The workers took the brunt of torrential showers and pingpong ball-sized hail as they evacuated 26 dogs from the facility on JD Johnson Road in Peyton, making sure the nearly 75 others that remained on site were safe and dry. "The hail started and we noticed it was shattering all the skylights," said Kim Lehman, Mill Dog Rescues director of operations.
