Driver Escapes Before Train Smashes His Stalled Car

A driver got out of his car before it was struck by a train in Gastonia Wednesday morning. Gastonia police say the collision happened on E Airline Avenue at Hancock Street, near the Gastonia Amtrak station. The car stalled on the tracks and the driver got out to seek help before the train hit the car, dragging it nearly a quarter of a mile. Police believe the car had a flat tire. The driver and train conductor were not injured in the accident.
