Fiery Multi-Vehicle Collision Shuts Down California Interstate

Northbound Interstate 880 in San Leandro is back open this morning after a fiery multi-vehicle collision shut it down for well over two hours. The California Highway Patrol first got a report of the collision on I-880 just north of Davis Street at around 3:02 a.m. Up to seven vehicles collided in what may have been a chain reaction collision, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said. Van Eckhardt said the collision started with one vehicle spinning out. One person was trapped inside a vehicle and fire crews had to extricate that person, Van Eckhardt said.
