Insurance adjuster pleads guilty to scheming with NJ Turnpike manager to steal $1.5 million

A Saddle Brook insurance adjuster has pleaded guilty to scheming with a New Jersey Turnpike claims manager to divide up $1.5 million in payouts for turnpike accidents, according to federal court records. Mark Valentino pleaded guilty Thursday to a mail fraud charge during an appearance before U.S. District Court Judge Kevin McNulty and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison at his sentencing on Sept. 15. His attorney, James Patuto, declined to comment. In December, turnpike claims manager Gerardo Blasi, 55, of Clifton, admitted conspiring with unnamed claims managers to steal $1.5 million by inflating the costs of repairs to turnpike property damaged by motorists.
