Lightning Causes $2 Million in Fire Damage to Massachusetts Home

Lightning struck a home on the Northampton, Williamsburg town line and caused $2 million worth of damage after a fire caused by the strike consumed the entire house. Severe thunderstorms and lightning lit up the sky above Western Mass Wednesday night. While the owners of the home at 675 North Farms Rd. were away, someone checking on the house was home when the lightning struck around 9:30 p.m., according to Northampton Fire Department officials. The caretaker saw no sign of fire before leaving the home after the lightning strike, fire officials said.
