he state Senate has passed a bill sponsored by state Sen. Benjamin B. Downing, D-Pittsfield, requiring proper training and certification for insurance adjusters. The bill, S.435, is now in the House. Downing admitted that he was not sure how the bill would do, adding that getting it passed in the Senate was "a good first start. "Its a relatively new issue," he said of the bill. "So Im hopeful, but it may not make it through in this session." Even if the bill doesnt pass this year, Downing said he believes the House will eventually approve it. Downing authorized the legislation after meeting with Stockbridge resident Deb Mennett.
