Self-Driving Cars May Be Obsolete Before They Get Here

In 10 years, there’s no question that driverless systems will be ubiquitous, but self-driving cars will not be, Ian Pearson, a futurologist, told Tech Insider. "What Google is proposing is obsolete," Pearson, who is also a fellow at the World Academy for Arts and Science, said. "It doesn’t exist yet, but there isn’t any point in going through that phase." Many companies are banking on having either fully-automated or semi-automated cars ready by 2020. But Pearson said self-driving cars are far too expensive considering in 10 years there will be no point to owning a car.
