This position will focus on the management of insurance programs covering medical malpractice. You will rely on your strong analytic, communication, and negotiation skills and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Underwriters are natural problem solvers who want to know our customers and how we can profitably accept the risks that our policies cover.
Manage insurance programs covering medical malpractice.
Assist in developing an annual revenue/premium budget for your Program(s).
Meet or exceed annual insurance revenue/premium budget.
Assist Program Administrators in developing and implementing marketing plans. Assist in implementation by meeting with associations, attending trade shows, etc.
Develop, implement and enforce underwriting guidelines for programs assigned to Program Administrators to whom we grant authority to underwrite on our behalf.
Review underwriting referrals submitted by the Program Administrator when an account exceeds their underwriting authority.
Monitor Claims Activity in conjunction with the Claims Department and develop remedial actions to address concerns on individual accounts and on developing trends on the overall book.
Define, execute and monitor insurance premium rate action plans to achieve profitability goals. For example, if the premium rates we are charging for certain lines of coverage are proving to be inadequate, develop plans to improve rates, with the program administrator, so that we can maximize profitability.
Develop a working relationship with the IronHealth Actuaries to maintain a contemporaneous view of the premium rate adequacy.
Manage the P & L, combined ratios and commission activity for assigned programs.
Combined ratios are the sum of expected claims we will pay, the commissions we pay to the Program Administrators and our own overhead expenses divided by the premiums we collect. The goal is to make the combined ratios less than 100%, thereby maximizing profit.
Conduct underwriting audits of the Program Administrators that underwrite on our behalf to ensure they are following our guidelines and representing the Company well.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.
Program Manager would be able to effectively communicate the elements of his/her program analysis with his/her peers, department management and the Program
