North Carolina requires insurance adjusters to be licensed through the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI). The state does not require pre-licensing education, but all adjuster applicants must pass a state exam. Applications are processed through NIPR with a typical turnaround of 60 days.

North Carolina issues several adjuster license types:

Adjuster — General property and casualty adjusterHail Adjuster — Specialized for hail damage claimsPublic Adjuster — Represents policyholders

Adjuster applicants must pass a state licensing examination. Exams are administered through Pearson VUE. Resident applicants from California, Hawaii, or New York must pass an exam regardless of other qualifications.
