Texas is one of the largest insurance markets in the country and one of the most active states for catastrophe claims due to hurricanes, hailstorms, and flooding. The state offers a straightforward licensing process through the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), with most adjusters completing a 40-hour pre-licensing course that exempts them from the state exam.

Texas issues an All Lines Adjuster license that covers property, casualty, and surety claims. This single license type applies to independent adjusters, public adjusters, and staff adjusters. Staff adjusters employed by a single insurer may be exempt from individual licensing depending on the insurer's registration.

If you choose the state exam path (instead of the pre-licensing course exemption), the exam is administered by Pearson VUE and consists of 150 multiple-choice questions with a required passing score of 70%. First-attempt pass rates are approximately 60-70%.

However, approximately 90% of Texas adjusters skip the state exam entirely by completing the 40-hour pre-licensing course, which includes its own final exam.

Complete a 40-hour TDI-approved pre-licensing course (recommended) or prepare for the state examSubmit fingerprints for background checkApply through the TDI online licensing system (Sircon)Pay application and fingerprint feesReceive your All Lines Adjuster license (typically 2-4 weeks)

Texas requires 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years for license renewal, including ethics coursework.

Texas is one of the fastest states to get licensed in due to the pre-licensing course exemption from the state exam. Most new adjusters complete the entire process in 2-4 weeks.
