A series of storms on May 7 and 8 centered across the top half of the state caused at least $31.4 million in damages, according to preliminary insured loss estimates released by the Ohio Insurance Institute (OII). Thunderstorms produced hail, wind and a May 7 tornado that touched down in Wood County. The National Weather Service reported hail measuring between 1.25 to 1.5 inches in Sandusky.
