The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has agreed to pay $47.5 million to settle injury claims stemming from the rescue, recovery and debris removal operations after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. But before plaintiffs suing the Port Authority can receive any compensation, the settlement first must be approved by the Port Authority Board of Commissioners and the two state governors.
