Producers were back in their fields harvesting cotton this week just days after rain and hail drenched the region, but they said it was too early to determine what they lost. On Thursday, thunderstorms raged across Terry, Lubbock, Lynn and Crosby counties, dashing the high hopes for many producers who were anticipating above-average yields this year. Pea- to golf ball-size hail knocked cotton bolls to the ground and the 3 to 5 inches of rain made the cotton muddy and stringy.
