First the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied help for flood victims. Now Faribaults insurance company is denying claims against the city for sewage backups. The League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust determined that the city was not negligent or responsible for the 59 reported backups, said Terry Berg, interim city administrator. The determination followed a review of the citys maintenance records and past construction. The insurance trust concluded the city should not be held responsible for the backups because they were the result of a natural disaster. The flood overwhelmed the citys wastewater treatment plant and damaged the collection system.
