Drivers entering a roundabout who fear theyre about to crash are not paranoid. Although the rotaries are built to ease congestion and lessen serious injuries, data obtained by the Albany Times Union show the number of collisions increased after most of the roundabouts opened in New York States Capital Region. Crashes increased at 15 of the 20 roundabouts built where a previous intersection existed, with fender benders even more likely to rise, sometimes dramatically, at two-lane rotaries.
