Firefighters from a half-dozen departments battled a fire at a historic church overnight. The Westport police and fire departments responded to the Saugatuck Congregational Church on Post Road East shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived, the back of the church was engulfed in flames, fire officials said. Additional fire crews from Norwalk, Fairfield, Weston, Wilton and Trumbull were called to the scene. A total of 63 firefighters responded.
