A mother and daughter are lucky to be alive Wednesday after a fire damaged their home in San Marcos. The fire on Tres Ranchos Lane broke out around midnight in the garage near where the family kept hay for their horses. The fire quickly spread to the attic and roof of the house. According to firefighters, the two residents were hesitant to leave the burning home because their pets were still inside. It took crews 45 minutes to knock down the flames which destroyed the garage and heavily damaged the attic and roof.
