Six insurance estimators at the Insurance Corporation of B.C. have been fired for breaking protocol when accepting claims, prompting an investigation into the relationship between an ICBC claims centre and 12 body shops in Richmond. The breach may have led to a boost in business for those garages, at least one of which — Hugh Auto Body — developed “a close relationship” with the estimators, according to the province’s auto insurer. After an investigation dating back to last year, five of the workers at ICBC’s Richmond claims centre were fired in September and one in March for approving inspection reports for damaged vehicles by phone instead of assessing them in person.
