Firefighters called twice to same Kansas City, Kan., house

A family escaped a fire in their Kansas City, Kan., home for the second time in less than 12 hours. Neighbors alerted the family of three to the second fire at about 3 a.m. Monday. Arriving crews reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the roof of the home, on Hagemann Street near S. 53rd St. The fire department had to move into defensive mode to fight the blaze.
