The National Weather Service says storms that last week ravaged the St. Louis area and portions of neighboring Illinois spawned nine tornadoes, amazingly not causing any serious injuries. KMOV-TV reports some of the worst destruction resulted from an EF3 twister that hit parts of Missouris St. Charles and St. Louis counties before clipping St. Louis city. That tornado was said to be 1,000 yards wide and had winds of 136 to 165 mph. Eight people sustained minor injuries, and more than six dozen homes were rendered uninhabitable.
