State Farm to file action against NV Energy involving Caughlin Fire in Reno

One year and eight months after a destructive fire wreaked havoc at the Caughlin Ranch area, one insurance company is getting ready to seek action against NV Energy for claims related to the incident.
State Farm Insurance sent letters to customers notifying them that the company will be filing action against NV Energy through “subrogation.” Subrogation is a legal action that can be undertaken by insurance companies against a third party they believe to be responsible for damages sustained by customers. tate Farm declined to comment about specifics regarding the action because it has yet to be filed. A report released in January 2012 concluded that the Caughlin Fire was started after a tree branch hit an arcing power line.
