Amtrak hits auto hauler in South Valley, N.M.

An Amtrak train approaching Albuquerque hit an auto hauler stopped on a grade crossing in the South Valley Wednesday morning sending vehicles flying and injuring the locomotive operators. The crash happened at about 11:00 a.m. on Prosperity Avenue SW at Second Street as Amtrak’s Southwest Chief was only minutes from its Albuquerque station stop. Initial reports from the scene indicate two people, apparently the locomotive crew, were transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries. The truck driver wasn’t injured.
According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department no serious injuries have been reported.
