Three mobile homes go up in flames

Flames, leaping from a valley home, made for some tense moments Sunday morning for fire crews on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. The fire burned out of control, and it may have had something to do with what was inside one of those mobile homes. People say they heard one explosion after another while they waited for firefighters to arrive. The Salt River Fire Chief called this fire ferocious. Crews responded within minutes of receiving 911 calls but already the fire had spread, engulfing a total of three homes. The explosions could be heard loud and clear, one after another, the sirens deafening. Home video shot by a resident of the Shadow Mountain Village Trailer Park is terrifying to watch. "The explosions, we just kept hearing a lot of pops -- a lot of pop-pops," said Linda Whittle. The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. By the time firefighters arrived it had destroyed three homes.
