Two men dressed as clowns - on their way to the York Fair - were derailed when they were involved in a crash Wednesday evening in West York. West York Borough Police responded to Highland Avenue near the fair about 5:35 p.m., where they found a Chrysler minivan had struck a Honda SUV, Sgt. Brad Thomas said. The minivan was driven by James Billingsley, 83, of York, who goes by the name "Dimples the Clown," when in character, Thomas said. The van was towing a trailer, which carried a "decorated and customized" golf cart. Billingsley and his passenger, Norman Clouser, 77, of York - who was also dressed as a clown - were south on Highland Avenue when they realized they had missed the turn into one of the fairs gates, Thomas said.
