Claims from residents whose vehicles were damaged after they drove into a sinkhole in a Jacksonville road have been denied by the city’s insurance company. Melanie Brown, 34, of Jacksonville, was driving to work at Onslow County Department of Social Services when her 2013 Volkswagen Jetta struck the sinkhole, causing two flat tires on her driver’s side. Brown filled out the damage claim form supplied by City Hall and submitted it with an article from The Daily News explaining what happened, photos of the car and a photo of the sinkhole.
