Heavy rain pounded parts of the metro area flooding some area homes and businesses, including the Portland Winterhawks Skating Center. The rain came down at a rate of around one to two inches an hour in some spots.
Video taken inside the rink when the rain started coming down shows water pouring through one of the exit doors. Staff said the water was over five feet high outside the doors. Ice rink crews had a Zambian out to try and save the ice, but it was coming in too fast. Even the office areas had several inches of water pour in, destroying the carpets and rubber floor mats.
