A fire ripped through a wood products plant Thursday, sending a plume of smoke up over the southern Willamette Valley. There were no reports of injuries.Fire officials said the fire could smolder for days.
Witnesses reported hearing an explosion audible from as far away as South Eugene. Residents closer to the South F Street mill said the explosions shook the neighborhood. The fire started at about 4:41 p.m. at the Swanson Group Manufacturing Springfield Plywood and Veneer facility, 1651 South F St. in Springfield.
