Smoke Shop Fire Travels Through Phoenix Strip Mall

The Phoenix Fire Department was working to douse a first-alarm fire on Sunday night near Cave Creek Road and Greenway Parkway in north Phoenix, officials said. Authorities began receiving calls at 8 p.m. for the fire at Mj’s Smoke & Gift Shop, which is in the Cave Creek Retail Center strip mall. The fire grew quickly when it entered the roof and traveled to nearby storefronts, according to a spokesman with the department. About 60 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, and it was considered to be under control by 9 p.m.
