Thousands of Massachusetts residents were without power Tuesday morning as a snowstorm packing near hurricane-force winds walloped coastal communities and forced evacuations from homes on the island of Nantucket. Massachusetts State Police reported downtown Nantucket streets were flooded and evacuations were underway. Power was out to the entire island, Nantucket Police Chief William Pittman told NBC News, affecting about 12,800 people. National Grid, which services the island, said it was working to fix power and expected some areas to have electricity restored later Tuesday morning.
