Ice Chunk Falls Off Boston Building, Crushes Car

With the temperatures warming up falling ice and snow are delivering crushing blows to parked cars and sidewalks across the city. In Beacon Hill one ice chunk fell from 4 stories up and landed on a car just minutes before Yvette Mulderry and her son got in. “Had I been here five minutes early that would not have been a good thing,” she said. The danger wasn’t gone. Another piece of ice hung precariously over the sidewalk on Brimmer Street, but Boston firefighters were able to knock it safely onto the street. “The firemen were saying the ice that had fallen was 500 lbs. and the piece they had to have fall was an additional 500 lbs.,” Mulderry said.

You can find the same danger on street after street as winter’s work melts away.

“The ice is still falling and it’s only going to keep falling as it melts so there is no great place to walk right no,” Beacon Hill resident Nathan Glenister said.

For now Mulderry is just thankful "what could have happened" is only a chilling thought.

There are regulations about removing snow and ice from roofs in Boston, but city officials urge property owners to do so if it is safe.
