A large fire destroyed a part of a historic winery on Sunday night. Flames broke out around 10:45 p.m. at the Charlton Orchards Farm and Winery, which is just south of Route 20 and the Mass Pike. The Fire Marshal says the fire destroyed a majority of the corporate, retail and storage area of the winery. Four thousand gallons of wine were ruined and all of the wine-making equipment was burned. The fate of about 100 chickens on the property was not immediately known. Firefighters from six towns responded to the scene.
A cause has not yet been determined. The fire is under investigation.
The farm dates to 1733, according to its website.
