Jimena Intensifies Into Category 1 Hurricane In East Pacific

Jimena quickly intensified into a Category 1 hurricane overnight as it tracks toward the Hawaiian islands to the east of Hurricane Ignacio. The National Hurricane Center said at 5 a.m. Friday, Jimena was located about 2,250 miles east-southeast of Hilo and was moving to the west at 12 miles per hour. Jimena had maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour with higher gusts. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 15 mph from the center. Forecasters say some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and may reach Category 3 strength on Friday night.
