A Lake Waccamaw man was arrested Sunday and charged with insurance fraud after he allegedly claimed his boat was stolen. According to officials from the North Carolina Department of Insurance, William Nathan Spaulding, 38, is facing one count each of insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense, and providing false statements on an insurance application. Investigators allege that Spaulding fraudulently collected nearly $35,000 from Seaworthy Insurance in January after filing a report that his boat, trailer, and other fishing equipment were stolen while he was on vacation in South Carolina.
