Severe Storm Rips Through Lamar County, Mississippi

Severe weather caused damage in several parts of the Pine Belt Thursday evening. A viewer reported a tornado touching down in Sumrall near Hickory Grove. Damage was reported in the 3600 block of Rocky Branch Road in Lamar County. Damage has also been reported on 172 Old Salt Road in Lamar County. A tree is on a house, but there are no injuries. Trees are down on Oloh Road East and are also blocking Old Salt Road in Lamar County. There are reports of a mobile home being destroyed on 26 Sand Land Road in Lamar County.

The Oak Grove search and rescue team has mobilized. There is a rescue station set up at the Oloh Fire station.

There are reports of people potentially being trapped in Oloh, but we have yet to confirm this.

Downed trees have also been reported on I-59 near Moselle.

Crews from Jackson National weather service will survey the damaged areas Friday to determine aspects of the storm, or classify the strength of the tornado if one was spawned.
