Century-Old Missouri Church Gutted By Flames

A fire burned a historic Sedalia church to the ground overnight. Firefighters were called to the First United Methodist Church located at 117 W. Fourth St. about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday. A police officer on patrol spotted smoke and flames coming from the basement window of the church, which was originally built in the 1880s. Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes. First units saw flames coming out of the upstairs windows and within minutes portions of the roof had collapsed.
