City Contractor’s Main Line Work Results In Sewage Backup Claims

Work to tighten up Joplin’s main sewer lines in the tornado zone to prevent water infiltration into the sewer system has resulted in seven claims of damage from sewage backups. One of those — the one that appears to be the most severe — happened at the home of Bree O’Haro, 2314 S. Joplin Ave. O’Haro said the cleanup and sanitizing of her home will cost more than $17,000, while Joplin City Manager Sam Anselm said that cost plus the expense to provide motel housing for the displaced O’Haro family has reached about $20,000.
