Around 50,000 pounds of potatoes spilled in a tractor-trailer crash Friday morning, closing part of Interstate 77 near uptown Charlotte. Troopers say the driver of a tractor-trailer fell asleep behind the wheel on I-77 southbound near Exit 9B, causing him to hit a concrete barrier and spill the potatoes across the highway. It happened around 2 a.m. A portion of the highway was closed for a majority of the morning. The truck was moved Friday morning and the left and middle lanes were reopened. By 12:30 p.m. only the right lane remained closed with a few potatoes on the road.
