Interstate 85 in Concord reopened early Tuesday morning after a BMW smashed into a fire truck responding to a wreck.
It happened just before 1:30 a.m. on I-85 northbound near Exit 49, Concord Mills Boulevard. Troopers say the fire truck was on the scene of a crash and was blocking two lanes to help redirect traffic when the wreck happened. The BMW did not yield, and hit the front right of the fire truck at full speed, troopers say. The interstate was shut down for about two hours.
According to Concord firefighters, the BMW hit the truck so hard it moved the truck about 3-4 feet.
