Ten people are permanently displaced after a fire destroyed an apartment building Monday in Virginia, Minnesota. Virginia Fire Chief Allen Lewis said Tuesday morning the fire was extinguished around 9 p.m. Monday. The building is a total loss, he said, but some possessions may be salvageable. An additional seven people in neighboring homes were displaced last night because of smoke, but were allowed to return home. Crews did not think the fire would spread to other structures at the time. The structure fire was reported around 1 p.m. Monday at 701 S. Fifth Ave. and caused the closure of surrounding streets in the area throughout the night.
