A 53-year-old man died after a piece of lumber flew off the back of a truck and smashed through his pickups windshield in midtown Tuesday morning, police said. Officers responded to the crash at 13th Street and Sheridan Road around 9:45 a.m and soon determined that the pickup driver, John Fisher of Tulsa, was dead, Sgt. Stephen Boyes said. Investigators learned that a Pixley Lumber Co. truck was turning south onto Sheridan from eastbound 13th when a plank slid off the back of the truck and penetrated the windshield of the Chevrolet S-10 pickup as it headed north, striking Fisher, Boyes said.
