A Sunday afternoon fire left a St. Charles home uninhabitable, fire officials said. The St. Charles Fire Department was called to a house in the 1800 block of South Third Place shortly after 1:40 p.m., according to a news release from the fire department. When firefighters arrived at the home, they found a fire had burned from the exterior of the building into the house and the attic, they said. The fire is believed to have been accidental and has been attributed to ashes from a recreational fire the previous evening that were discarded into a plastic garbage can, according to fire officials.
