Surveillance Exposed Former Police Sergeant’s False Injury Claim

A former Cromwell police sergeant was arrested today and charged with Workers’ Compensation Fraud after he was seen doing construction work at his home after an on-the-job injury supposedly left him unable to work. JONATHAN MANTEL, age 51, of Cromwell, was arrested by Inspectors from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney on an arrest warrant charging him with one count of Fraudulent Claim or Receipt of Benefits. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Mantel received disability benefits as a result of a knee injury he reported suffering in June 2016 that left him unable to work as a Cromwell Police sergeant.
