Wildfire Ignited By Illegal Burning Damages 15 Florida Homes

At least 15 homes have been damaged or destroyed in a fire that started Wednesday with a burning of paperback books and rapidly grew into a nearly 400-acre wildfire in the Bryceville area of Nassau County, according to officials. By 7 a.m. Friday, officials said the fire was 65 percent contained, but firefighters said they had no timetable for when evacuated residents would be able to return to their homes because the fire had damaged some of the county’s infrastructure, including power lines. "We don’t feel it’s safe until after sunrise to make those assessments, so we’re asking the public to be patient with us," Nassau County Fire Battalion Chief Mike Eddins said.
