Defendants Owe $130M Restitution In Insurance Fraud Case

A federal judge has ordered 15 people to pay more than $130 million in restitution for their roles in a massive insurance fraud that was based in South Florida. Six defendants were sentenced earlier this week to federal prison after they pleaded guilty to various related crimes. Senior U.S. District Judge Daniel T.K. Hurley previously sentenced nine defendants to prison, including the most serious offenders who were ordered to serve prison terms of ten and 15 years. Prosecutors said they have already seized more than $30 million worth of cash and assets from the defendants.
