Three Injured In Explosion During Gas Transfer At Mesa, Arizona Airport

Authorities say three people were injured, including one seriously, in an explosion as workers transferred compressed natural gas at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa. The Mesa Fire and Medical Department says the explosion occurred Wednesday morning at a backup ramp area and away from runways. Officials say the explosion hasn’t affected the airport terminal or flight operations. Additional information was not immediately available. Phoenix-Mesa is located on the site of a closed Air Force base and serves as reliever airport for Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix.
