Mercedes-Benz will recall about 9,000 mid- and full-size crossover SUVs built at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama, assembly plant to fix an issue related to their brake systems, the automaker said Wednesday. The recall covers certain 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class and 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, including the mainstream GLE350 and GLS450 as well as the AMG-tuned GLE43, GLE63, and GLS63 versions. At fault are rear brake calipers that Mercedes-Benz says were not coated correctly at the factory. The automaker said in government filings that hydrogen may be trapped in the vehicles’ hydraulic brake lines, which could affect braking performance.
